But, that
was not always the case. There are hundreds of women who stand out in American History
due to their strong characters, contributions to society, or plain old
interesting personalities.
From the hardy pioneers who crossed the vast prairies and
mountains heading westward, to nurses, abolitionists, stagecoach drivers, and even a few doctors and soldiers, you'll find their stories
here.

days when the West
was ruled by the gun, it took a woman of great character and strong resolve to
survive.

I'm grateful that I didn't live then. Life was hard--plus there was no A/C, central heat, indoor plumbing, and other modern conveniences we take for granted.
ReplyDeleteOh, me, too. I just love this index to every pioneer woman you could think of. I've used it many times. Save it. It will come in handy one day.
DeleteI'm going to go to the link you included and read what it has to say. Women can be as brilliant or as bad (as the case may be) as any man, but they had more obstacles in their way than men. So that means they had to better at being bad, good, or smart than their male counterparts.
ReplyDeleteGood article, Celia.
Hi! Yes, and keep this link. It is a great source about women of that time. I've used it many times.
DeleteAmazing women! Thanks for the link. It's a keeper!
ReplyDeleteLyn Horner--it is a keeper. And that's why I gave it to you. It can really come in handy.
DeleteI agree with Sarah. But I think to some extent women are still forced to be better than their male counterparts. Luckily, we're very good at doing that! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, E Ayers, I think you are so right. The women at time, did more than their share. There's a saying that 'women won the west." At least the women "built" the west, while the men fought and used their guns, etc.
