December 25, 1886:

Two restaurants had an amazing menu ready for the Holiday diners according to the Aspen Daily Times of December 25, 1886. At the La Veta they had the following advertised:

Another restaurant  Delmonico's had this to offer:

Although the menu may be a bit hard to read the food would astound most. Both restaurants had oyster soup although La Veta advertised theirs as Fresh Oyster. Delmonico's had Baked catfish with English sauce and La Veta had Barbecue of Lake trout with Oyster Sauce.

They had a boiled, roast, and then the entrees. Both had turkey and beef, but La Veta had possum while Delmonico's had Oyster Patties.

If you choose to make the Baked catfish with English Sauce, bake the catfish and add Worcestershire sauce.

Of course, most anyone could make Lemon meringue pie or Cranberry pie. Whatever you would have chosen for the meal, both hotel restaurants had plenty on the menu.

Wishing everyone a blessed, happy, and prosperous Holiday Season. I'll see you in 2021.
