Like all writers I put people I know into my characters and the person I know best and love the most is my husband. So it only makes sense that I put a bit of him into all my heroes making them the loves of my life while I'm writing their stories.
The traits I've put in my characters that are my husband's are:
playful
hard working
steward of the land
honest
social
confident
loyal
Marshal in Petticoats - Gil- honest, confident, loyal
Outlaw in Petticoats- Zeke - playful, mischievous, confident, loyal
Miner in Petticoats - Ethan -hard working, honest, loyal
Doctor in Petticoats - Clay- playful, honest, loyal
Gambling on an Angel - Bas - social, confident, loyal
Perfectly Good Nanny - Brock - steward of the land,hard working, honest, loyal
Bridled Heart - Holt - playful, honest, loyal
Spirit of the Mountain - Himiin - steward of the land, honest, confident, loyal
Spirit of the Lake - Wewukiye - playful, social, confident, loyal

Strong
Leader
Takes care of everyone
Forgiving most of the time
Loyal
I'm sure there are many more, but I can't of them right now.

ReplyDeleteMe, too, on married to my hero, a six-one lanky Texan, that has these traits. Every one of them. Others that know him--even his family--does not know he is playful and funny--I'm the only person, I think, who ever sees this. He's more comfortable with me than with others. Nice post. Celia

I use my hubby in my heroes too, along with a few other men I admire. It is great to be able to draw from their personalities.
Paty - congratulations on your anniversary! It is so great that you draw on your hero traits from your husband. I guess I do, too, in terms of integrity and loyalty and his willingness to do anything no matter how humiliating to protect/defend his family. Pete and I celebrated 34 years in March - you and I are lucky girls.
