I was on one decades ago out of St. Louis. I was with a convention group and we were all treated to a ride up and down the river while we had dinner and music to dance.<br />These must have been luxurious compared to traveling in a stagecoach!<br />Good article--I enjoyed it. My characters travel down the Mississippi by paddlewheeler, then up the Red River to Shreveport, Louisiana. From there, a smaller boat carries them across a chain of lakes and bayous to Jefferson, Texas, on the state’s eastern border.
