What a wonderful post. That's truly ...Caroline,
What a wonderful post. That's truly one of the best posts I've ever read anywhere, anytime. I am a Louis L'Amour FREAK. I started reading his books about 12 years ago. I talked my dad into reading them along with me. As soon as I'd finish one, I'd pass it on to him. He got SOOOOO hooked, and was soon reading them faster than I was. I made a trip to the used book store and bought all of them I could find, and took them to him to read first, then pass them on to ME. LOL Conagher is one of my favorite books. I use it a LOT to teach from in my writing classes. People who never liked westerns end up becoming fans once we talk about it and look at it as a class. Thanks so much for this wonderful post--loved the pictures, too!
CherylCheryl Piersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18116526340220274282noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1822452633282744192.post-83593863149933762932011-09-26T19:44:19.661-05:002011-09-26T19:44:19.661-05:00I loved getting to know about this man. Sam Elliott is the love of my life, and he had a very special professional relationship and friendship with Louis L'Amour. "Conagher" is in a class by itself. Such an amazing collaboration of talent went into that film. I have the book also, and I plan to read it very soon. My first western author was probably Laura Ingalls Wilder, when I was little, and I think a pioneer series featuring Caddie Woodlawn. These days I love Linda Lael Miller.

I agree with one of this posts themes...Sam Elliott is The Man.Tanya Hansonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08580821680629254085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1822452633282744192.post-4011110365013234302011-09-26T18:03:30.709-05:002011-09-26T18:03:30.709-05:00Carolyn -- I think the reason you came up with Sam...Carolyn -- I think the reason you came up with Sam Ross is that Sam Elliott's wife is actress, Katharine Ross (who was also in Conagher). :) ~ AshleyAshley Kath-Bilskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14073164133698225798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1822452633282744192.post-23885278836116259302011-09-26T17:58:56.390-05:002011-09-26T17:58:56.390-05:00Carolyn, what a WONDERFUL post! He certainly packed alot of living into his life, and I love how his family background, travels, and the people he met have been immortalized in his work. He was also handsome; so is his son. :) And I love Tom Selleck, but (for me) Sam Elliott just personifies the iconic, legendary American cowboys we visualize in L'Amour's books.

Anyway, I really love this post. Thanks for telling us the history of "America's Storyteller".

~ AshleyAshley Kath-Bilskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14073164133698225798noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1822452633282744192.post-81810403022222242052011-09-26T17:49:54.252-05:002011-09-26T17:49:54.252-05:00Vince is absolutely correct! I started to read it on the edit page, but I'm glad I didn't now.
He was probably a born story-teller, so prolific and very creative. I think I would have fallen in love with him--very handsome man, even when he was older. Is Beau a son or grandson? I guessed I missed that somewhere.

Certainly, I didn't know all this much about him. I knew he wrote many books, but the first thing I remember was a tv show made from one of his books. A lonely widow on the prarie wrote little poems and let the wind carry them away. A man found them stuck on bushes, etc, so he followed the trail to her cabin. Does this ring a bell?

I need to load my Kindle for a long trip, so I'll see what I can find on Amazon. How exciting...thanks for this wonderful post.
CeliaAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16272417114895975742noreply@blogger.com
