I have the book Texas Tears and Texas Sunshine--Voices of Frontier Women--and have used several of them to tell their story. You do what you have to do to survive. I can't say none of could of done it, because I think we could have. But some of all these women not only did the minimum to survive, they went the second mile and ended up making a living.<br />I love the straw hat story. I am such a weenie, sigh. Hubs and I just went to see the Tommie Lee Jones movie, The Homesman. I thought it portrayed women of the west very poorly. Why not make a movie about Tabitha? Sheesh.
